Find Your Path. Shape the Future.

Exploring a Career in Tech: A Q&A with a Graduate Hardware Verification Engineer at Arm

At Arm, we believe that no two career journeys are the same, and that’s exactly what makes each one so powerful. Whether you're switching paths, discovering your passion for technology later in life, or stepping into the unknown with curiosity and ambition, Arm is a place where you’ll be supported, encouraged, and valued for who you are and what you bring to the table. In this Q&A Tora, one of our graduate engineers in the Hardware team in Lund, reflects on how she moved from studying music to engineering, found confidence through community, and continues to grow her career in a culture that champions inclusion, learning, and belonging.

Can you tell us about your career journey and what led you to Arm?

I switched paths when I was 20 to study engineering instead of music. At that point in time, I decided to start studying Engineering Physics, however after two years I switched to Computer Engineering since I thought it seemed more fun! I had never done any programming before university, and I was a bit scared that I would be far behind, but the courses were good and eventually I got the hang of it! After my fourth year in university, I applied for a summer internship in Arm, and I ended up joining the Hardware team in Lund. I liked the team so much that I came back the year after for another summer internship, and after graduation I got a position as a Graduate Hardware Verification Engineer!

What excites you most about your role in tech?

There are always new things to learn and discover!

How has your work at Arm allowed you to grow professionally and personally?

I’ve learnt that it is normal to not know everything when you start working, and it is not expected by you. Instead, you’re encouraged to learn, and that sometimes means asking a lot of questions or taking more time to finish tasks. I am lucky to have supportive colleagues who never get tired of my questions and who always encourage me to take on challenges, and this has led me to feeling more confident in myself – both professionally and personally.

What does belonging mean to you in the workplace?

Belonging to me means that you feel that what you do has value to other people. This is both professionally and personally. I feel that I belong in my workplace because my contribution to our technology matters, but also because I feel that I bring something positive to the colleagues that I work with and the environment in the office.

How has Arm supported you in feeling included and valued?

Arm has an active DEI work and many community groups. This means that everyone in the offices is aware of how to best create an inclusive environment, and it is easy to find a community group that suits you if you feel that you need more support. Arm also encourages you to engage in community groups and volunteering, which makes you feel valued.

What kind of mentorship or support have you received at Arm?

I’ve received lots of support from my colleagues and my line manager. They have always encouraged me to do my best but also dare to take risks and make mistakes. I’ve also received support from the women’s community groups we have in Arm. They have been so inclusive and supportive, and a great place to talk about challenges and share experiences.

Stories like Tora’s show how Arm’s culture is built to support every individual journey. We know that no two career paths are the same, and that’s exactly what makes each one powerful. At Arm, you’ll be encouraged to explore your potential, supported as you grow, and valued for who you are and what you bring. Whether you're changing direction or starting out in tech, this is a place where you can shape your future with confidence, be part of a collaborative and inclusive community, and feel a true sense of belonging from day one.
