Nineteen Years and Counting: Murtaza’s Experience at Arm Cambridge

Can you share a little about your role at Arm? When did you join the company? How did the growth within India contribute to your career journey at Arm, and what was it like to be part of building the culture there?

I joined Arm in March 2005 as a graduate engineer, initially focusing on CPU verification before transitioning to system-level design and verification. Last year, I relocated to Cambridge and now work on Automotive CSS as part of the CSS team. The growth within India played a significant role in my career journey at Arm. Being among the first hires in the verification team in India in 2005 was quite a journey. We underwent training in Cambridge to learn not only about technology but also about the company culture. The effort to build culture through training in Cambridge and the collaborative environment fostered in India influenced how the team grew and operated.

How does Arm's culture foster innovation, problem-solving, and a collaborative environment? How does Arm support career growth and learning opportunities?

Arm's culture is incredible when it comes to fostering innovation and collaboration. Engineers are encouraged to think outside the box and explore new ideas, which creates a dynamic work environment. Arm supports career growth by encouraging employees to explore different areas within the company. I've had the opportunity to work on diverse projects and develop new skills along the way. It's been a rewarding experience, both personally and professionally.

Can you describe the mentorship culture at Arm and how it contributes to employee development?

The mentorship culture at Arm is fantastic. While there are official mentorship programs, informal mentorship is common. Experienced engineers are always willing to share their knowledge and mentor junior colleagues, which enhances employee development.

My relocation experience to Cambridge was smooth, thanks to the support from Arm throughout the process. Transitioning to the Cambridge office was relatively seamless, although there were some initial challenges with remote collaboration, which improved over time.

What is a typical day like for you at Arm, and how does the company's open-door policy contribute to a dynamic work environment?

A typical day at Arm is always exciting. There are ample opportunities for learning and collaboration. The company's open-door policy creates a dynamic work environment where employees feel empowered to share ideas and collaborate across teams.

Arm fosters collaboration and social interactions through various activities, which contributes to a fun and supportive work culture. While the extent may vary across regions, the culture of respect and camaraderie remains consistent.

Lastly, how did you first hear about Arm, and what inspired you to join the company?

I first heard about Arm during my master's degree. Despite its lesser-known status at the time, Arm's reputation for innovation and impact in the technology industry intrigued me.

The culture of continuous learning and opportunities for personal and professional growth ultimately inspired me to join the company. It's been an incredible journey so far, and I'm excited for what the future holds at Arm.
