Intern to Engineer

Interviewing at Arm

Congratulations on reaching the interview stage at Arm! Now, let’s ensure you shine brightly throughout the process. Here are your most common questions answered.
***

How many stages of interview are there?

Typically, there are two stages of interviewing. The first stage involves an on-demand video interview through a platform called HireVue. In here, you will be able to record responses to a series of questions within a specified time limit. For non-technical questions, you will have the option to re-record your answer.

The final-stage interview typically involves a virtual video interview and on occasion, may be held in-person. During this interview, you’ll connect with the Arm team to discuss your interests and skills. Expect a mix of behavioural and technical questions relevant to the role. It’s your chance to demonstrate how you align with our dynamic culture and innovative vision.

The link to my on-demand video interview (HireVue) has expired. What should I do?

Please contact our Talent Acquisition team at TA-admin@arm.com, and a team member will assist you in resolving this issue.

Will I receive feedback if my application is unsuccessful?

At Arm, we value every candidate who takes the time to apply. Regardless of the outcome, we will notify you of your application status. While we strive to provide feedback to all applicants, detailed feedback is typically reserved for those who reach the final interview stage due to the volume of applications. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to continue exploring opportunities with us.

How do I request an accommodation for the interview process?

At Arm, we want to build extraordinary teams. If you need an adjustment or an accommodation during the recruitment process, please email accommodations@arm.com. To note, by sending us the requested information, you consent to its use by Arm to arrange for appropriate accommodations. All accommodation or adjustment requests will be treated with confidentiality, and information concerning these requests will only be disclosed as necessary to provide the accommodation. Although this is not an exhaustive list, examples of support include breaks between interviews, having documents read aloud, or office accessibility. Please email us about anything we can do to accommodate you during the recruitment process.

About Sunil

I joined Arm in India through an internship in 2022 and have been part of the CPU group ever since. My role focuses on test benches, but over time it’s shifted to improving workflows that enable the entire verification team to move faster and more effectively.

I came in thinking I’d be focused solely on technical work, but I never expected to enjoy working at the intersection of building workflows and verification as much as I do. What I enjoy most is that I’m not just solving problems, I’m helping build the systems that make problem-solving easier for everyone else.

What might surprise people about your day to day as an engineer at Arm?

Most people assume I spend my entire day coding or debugging test benches, but that’s just part of it. A lot of my time is actually spent collaborating and communicating  with cross-functional teams, communicating requirements clearly, mentoring junior team members.

The human element in engineering is bigger than most people expect, and collaborating effectively has become just as important as technical problem-solving. Over time, I’ve learned how to explain things better, depending on who I’m talking to. Different teams work differently, so you start to figure out how to get your point across and work together more smoothly.

You’ve grown from being an intern to engineer at Arm. How has your mindset evolved as you've taken on bigger engineering challenges at Arm?

When I was an intern, I focused on execution, but as I've grown and Arm continues to evolve, I've shifted my thinking from delivery to thinking about impact and long-term value creation.

I now think about how to design reusable solutions, improve processes, and contribute to the bigger picture.  One project I’m proud of involved rethinking how our test bench rendering was done. I developed a parallelized workflow that cut down the time to execution time by 70%, and that is still used daily by more than 120 engineers.

That idea started during my graduate year, I was given space to explore it through existing resources at Arm, ChatGPT and bouncing ideas with manager on use cases and how it should work. I went on to test it, and eventually implement it at scale. I’ve learned that the real win isn’t finishing something - it’s creating something that makes life better for others.
