What's it like starting a software apprenticeship without a technical background?
I didn't know a huge amount about coding before joining Arm, apart from what I'd taught myself.
Since joining Arm, I've had nothing but support from fellow apprentices and colleagues. You get help with the basics when you first start, a buddy within your team and a mentor outside your team.
And honestly, I haven't found anyone on my team I can't ask questions to. I've had people take me into a meeting room for an hour just to help me understand something.
Coming from another career has actually helped me too. Things like being able to communicate, collaborate and ask questions are skills I've brought with me.
In my day-to-day role, there's lots of problem-solving and working with other people in my team. One thing I really love is that you're trusted to run your own day. From day one, I've been given tasks and direction, but I'm not babysat.
I've also rotated into a different team, and that's when I really noticed how much I'd learned. Something that might have taken me a month to understand when I first joined could take just four or five days.
