If you’re thinking about taking the leap and moving to Manchester from another part of the world, it may be encouraging to know that Time Out magazine ranked Manchester at number 15 in its top 50 cities in the world in 2024 – “It's no coincidence that Chanel held its 2023 fashion show here, mere weeks after the UK’s landmark arts hub Factory International opened its doors. The balance of cultural power (in the UK) has finally shifted up North, making Manchester one of the most vibrant and fast-growing cities in Europe right now”.
Manchester is a city that truly embodies the spirit of diversity. Its rich multicultural heritage dates back to the Industrial Revolution, which saw an influx of Irish migrants, followed by European Jews seeking refuge. The post-war era welcomed new communities from the Caribbean and South Asia, and later, waves from Africa, such as Ugandan and Kenyan Asians, contributed to the city’s cultural.
Today, Manchester’s diversity is reflected in landmark areas like Chinatown and the Gay Village. Chinatown, one of the largest in the UK, is a colourful area brimming with Chinese restaurants, shops, and supermarkets, crowned by its iconic archway on Faulkner Street. It’s a place where the Lunar New Year erupts in a spectacle of parades and fireworks, a testament to the city’s embrace of different cultures.
“I came to the UK from a different country, yet I’ve always felt included here. I live 4 minutes from the office, so being able to walk in is very convenient for me. I come to the office every day. The train and tram stations are so near to the office that you can commute from most areas in Greater Manchester and beyond.
The building we have is a great space. The rooms are filled with natural light, which is really important to me. Our meeting rooms are full of character. We have themed rooms, including a Star Wars themed room and a Jungle themed room, which brighten things up. We also have relaxing spaces if you need some quiet time.
We have lots of social events and clubs that people can get involved in, including board game clubs and a choir.
In the Manchester office, we all know each other. In some of the bigger offices people might not get too many opportunities to speak to people outside of their team, but here there’s always someone to talk to.”
The Gay Village, centered around Canal Street, is a pulsating heart of Manchester’s LGBTQ+ community. It’s a neighbourhood that celebrates inclusivity and freedom, known for its lively bars, clubs, and the annual Manchester Pride Festival. This area not only offers a vibrant nightlife but also stands as a symbol of acceptance and celebration of diversity.
