Inside Arm's GPU Group: A Conversation with Sarit Lebanony

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and how your Arm journey began?

My name is Sarit Lebanony, and I am the Director of Verification at Arm, based in Ra’anana, Israel. I attended Technion University of Engineering and gained my Electrical Engineering degree 22 years ago. I chose engineering since I always loved mathematics and so it seems that was my comfort zone. At that time, just as computers were gaining popularity in the 1990s, there were only around five women in an intake of 350 people in the EE faculty, that fueled my passion to encourage more women in the STEM industry.

I started working at a small local company (which was acquired by a big company after a year), as a board designer in the Switching division, but it took some time to work out what side of engineering I liked best. I tried many roles, from board design, to chip validation and customers’ support, until I started looking into verification area, where I found a fascinating place to grow and bring my abilities to. After more than 10 years working at that company, I moved to a startup as a verification team lead, Arm purchased the startup in 2015, and that was when my Arm career journey has begun.

What do you value the most working at Arm?

When the startup became part of Arm, I was the main person bringing an understanding of Arm’s way of doing verification, flows, tools and methodologies, and assimilate all of it to the HW group, my team grew and became a group and have done a lot of huge projects together, involving a lot of professional work and personal mentoring, all with the special Arm mindset that everyone can impact and make a change.

The local group has worked together exceptionally well, while on the last years we are facing new challenges, across Arm sites groups work, which feels amazing to me.

"I have to say, Arm is great for intertwining work across many sites — you really get to experience the knowledge from so many professionals from many cultures"

Along the years, one statement that is recurring in my mind. For me, Arm is a people company which sees the person and the personality before the delivery and income. I have an example (except all Arm’s common benefits of sabbatical, wide maternity leave and parental leave) from my life adventure, during my first years with the company.

I went through some very hard personal times, and the support I was given is something I will never forget. They gave me the time I needed to get through it and gave me the confidence I needed to come back to my team as a better person, ready to produce the highest-quality work I could. The Arm team really feels like they’re in your corner – it’s like family here and it’s great to feel appreciated like that.
