Through Dani Oliver's Lens

In the dynamic world of technology, Dani Oliver's journey at Arm shows a path marked by versatility, passion, and authentic self-expression. Over the span of seven years, Dani has navigated various roles within the company, from Senior Scrum Master to his current position as Partner Delivery Manager. A software engineer himself, through each role, Dani has delved deeper into Arm's ecosystem, growing his expertise in Agile delivery processes and senior governance.

Reflecting on his journey, Dani shares, "The best about my work has to be the relationship with my colleagues. You can think of me as something between a project manager and a life coach, and what I enjoy the most is feeling that I truly help teams and individuals reach their true potential."

Passion Beyond the Agile Delivery

Amidst the intricacies of his professional life, Dani's passion lies beyond the Agile delivery. "I’ve always been passionate about photography," he says, tracing back to his childhood fascination with capturing moments in time.

During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dani decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in photography, a journey fuelled by his unwavering desire to unlock his creative potential. Now, he’s close to getting a High National Diploma.

Capturing Wellbeing: The Exhibition

Recently, Dani unveiled a photographic exhibition at the Arm Cambridge office, titled The Meaning of Wellbeing. "I decided to create a concept of portraying wellbeing as a whole through the Arm employees, our culture and values," Dani shares.

Through his lens, Dani captures the vibrancy of Arm's culture, portraying the intrinsic beauty found within everyday moments, "I am a firm believer that images have the power to elevate everyday moments, making them larger than life itself."

With Arm's support, Dani brought his vision to life, showcasing not only his talent but also the company's commitment to fostering a positive work culture and supporting employee passions. "We are a very open company, so it was very easy to reach out to everyone: from logistics, to funding, and even finding colleagues able to model for me. Arm made everything easy at all levels," he reflects.

Reflecting on the exhibition, Dani shares, "I’ve been very moved in the few days that this exhibition has been open. My colleagues have expressed their admiration for the portraits and the palpable feelings they convey."

Dani received multiple positive comments from Arm colleagues, one noting, "Your ability to find beauty in everyday scenes with Arm colleagues is remarkable. The emotions captured in your portraits are incredibly powerful and moving."

Balancing Work and Life

Dani's day-to-day routine reflects his commitment to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, a feat made possible by Arm's supportive culture and hybrid working.

"My life has changed a lot during the pandemic, and I’ve had to develop very strong routines to keep the sanity of my mental health," he shares. "Normally I wake up early, have breakfast while checking my emails, go for a refreshing walk, and by the time I am back I start my day of meetings."

Despite the demands of his role, Dani ensures to prioritize self-care and personal time. "I try to save time for admin tasks, do physical exercise, and find a good balance between being productive and taking care of myself," he adds.

Advocacy and Empowerment

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dani is an active advocate within the Pride@Arm Employee Resource Group, championing inclusivity and diversity within the workplace. "Everyone should simply be able to feel SAFE in their workplace," he says. Through his advocacy and leadership, Dani embodies the values of empathy, compassion, and authenticity, paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive future at Arm.

Dani remarks, "As a member of the LGBTQ community, it is my honor to contribute to the wellbeing of our queer employees and allies through education." He believes that all colleagues should feel safe, and able to bloom personally and professionally.

Advice to Potential Candidates

Dani encourages potential candidates to embrace authenticity, saying, "I’d ask them to be their true self in all dimensions from day one, to open up, and to be vulnerable at personal and also at professional level about their aspirations, their dreams, and their concerns. If something, Arm people are good listeners and enablers for all these good things. Good professionals will always have a home here as long as they’re authentic."
