Arm Trondheim connects with the Nordic semiconductor community at Nordic Chip Meet-Up 2026

Bringing together industry, academia and research, the Nordic Chip Meet-Up in Trondheim created a space to explore the technologies, talent and collaboration shaping the future of semiconductors.

The Nordic semiconductor ecosystem came together in Trondheim on 29–30 September for the Nordic Chip Meet-Up 2026, a two-day event held as part of Trondheim Tech Festival.

Bringing together organisations from across industry, academia and research, the event explored some of the key opportunities and challenges facing the semiconductor industry, from AI-enabled chip design and advanced technologies to talent development and international collaboration.

For Arm, the event was an opportunity to contribute to these conversations and welcome members of the wider community into our Trondheim office.

Exploring the future of chip design

On the first day of the event, Kirill Bykov, Staff Engineer at Arm, joined the AI Workflows for Chip Design session, exploring how AI is beginning to transform semiconductor design workflows.

The discussion brought together perspectives from across the industry, with speakers examining how AI can support areas including architecture, design, verification and optimisation, and what these changes could mean for the future of engineering.

Arm also contributed to the Talent Development & Attraction session, with Pierre-Alexandre Bou-Ach, Technical Director at Arm, joining representatives from Lund University, NTNU, Nordic Semiconductor, Qamcom and Tampere University.

With access to skilled talent becoming increasingly important across the semiconductor value chain, the panel explored how the Nordic region can continue to develop, attract and retain the expertise needed to support future innovation. Both sessions generated strong audience engagement and plenty of questions, reflecting the interest in how technology, people and collaboration will shape the next generation of semiconductor innovation.

Welcoming the community to Arm Trondheim

The conversation continued on day two, when Arm welcomed more than 80 Nordic Chip Meet-Up participants to its Trondheim office as part of the event's industry visits.

The visit offered attendees a closer look at Arm Trondheim, its people and its contribution to GPU technology. The team also shared the story of the site, from its roots in mobile graphics to its role in today's GPU innovation and the transformation of hardware design through AI.

The programme featured presentations from several members of the Trondheim team:

  • Pierre-Alexandre Bou-Ach – Welcome and introduction
  • Kjetil Sorensen – Arm Norway and its journey from local talent to global GPU impact
  • Oystein Gjermundnes – GPU technology
  • Anders Smedegaard Pedersen – AI transformation in hardware design

The presentations sparked lively discussion around GPU technology, ray tracing, AI in hardware engineering and the ways Arm teams collaborate across international sites. For visitors, the session also provided an opportunity to meet members of the local team and experience the Arm Trondheim office first-hand.

Connecting Nordic expertise

The Nordic Chip Meet-Up highlighted the depth of semiconductor expertise across the region and the value of bringing different perspectives together.

For Arm, opening our Trondheim office to the wider community was a chance to showcase the technical expertise of our local team while connecting it to the broader Arm organisation and semiconductor ecosystem.

As the industry continues to evolve, collaboration between companies, universities and research organisations will play an important role in turning new ideas and shared challenges into practical innovation.
