We seek a Staff Robotics Engineer to help create the next generation of Physical AI systems on Arm. You will design and build the software foundations that connect sensing, planning, control, and actuation so robots can operate reliably and autonomously on-device, independent of cloud services.
You will provide technical leadership across robotics architecture, platform integration, and developer workflows. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of robotics, embedded systems, real-time computing, and AI, with responsibility for turning advanced algorithms into dependable capabilities on Arm-powered products.
Key Responsibilities
Robotics architecture and systems integration
- Architect and implement modular robotics software that integrates sensors, state estimation, planning, control, and actuators.
- Define stable interfaces and system boundaries across the autonomy stack, middleware, operating system, and hardware accelerators.
- Lead integration of robotics components into production-ready reference platforms and customer-facing demonstrations.
Developer experience and platform tooling
- Build APIs, SDKs, and reusable components that make robotics capabilities straightforward to develop, configure, and deploy.
- Improve workflows for simulation, on-target testing, calibration, logging, replay, and over-the-air component updates.
- Create observability and diagnostic tools that expose timing, resource use, faults, and robot behavior across distributed components.
Real-time performance, reliability, and safety
- Optimize end-to-end latency, determinism, memory use, and throughput across CPUs and heterogeneous accelerators.
- Design systems that tolerate sensor degradation, communication faults, resource contention, and changing operating conditions.
- Establish testing, validation, and engineering practices that support maintainable, safe, and robust robotic behavior.
Technical leadership and collaboration
- Partner with controls, perception, AI, hardware, product, and customer teams to define requirements and system architecture.
- Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and drive resolution of complex cross-stack technical issues.
- Contribute reference implementations, documentation, examples, and upstream improvements that advance the robotics ecosystem on Arm.
Vital Skills and Experience
- 6+ years of experience designing and building robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded software used in real-world environments.
- Proficiency in modern C++ and Python, with strong software design, debugging, and code-quality practices.
- Strong understanding of:
- Robotics middleware and communication patterns, including ROS 2 or comparable systems
- Coordinate frames, timing, synchronization, calibration, and sensor and actuator interfaces
- Linux-based and real-time systems, concurrency, IPC, and distributed component lifecycles
- 3+ years of experience leading architecture or integration work across multiple parts of a robotics stack.
- Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, numerical methods, and performance optimization.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose system behavior across application, middleware, operating-system, and hardware layers.
- Excellent technical judgment, communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with navigation, manipulation, motion planning, or autonomous mobile robots.
- Experience with simulation, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, and automated robotics testing.
- Familiarity with AI and perception inference pipelines deployed on embedded or edge systems.
- Experience with heterogeneous computing across CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, or DSPs.
- Knowledge of functional safety, fault management, secure boot, isolation, or device attestation.
- Contributions to open-source robotics platforms, middleware, drivers, or developer tooling.
- Experience working with partners or customers to move robotics prototypes into production.
Why this role matters
Robots must combine complex software and hardware while meeting strict requirements for latency, reliability, safety, and power. A strong robotics platform lets teams focus on differentiated behavior instead of repeatedly rebuilding integration infrastructure.
In this role, you will shape how advanced robotics workloads run on Arm-powered devices across industrial, commercial, and consumer applications. Your work will help developers build capable physical systems that respond intelligently to the real world.

In Return:
You will have the opportunity to work on important technical challenges in AI and platform engineering as part of a growing team in Seattle. This position offers a chance to contribute to core platform capabilities. You’ll work alongside skilled colleagues from various subject areas and help invent the way new AI services are built and scaled at Arm.
In addition to meaningful technical work, Arm offers an environment that values thoughtful engineering, collaboration, and continuous learning. This opportunity suits someone who enjoys solving complex systems problems, working across teams, and contributing to technology important to the future of AI at Arm.
