Job Overview

The Academic and Emerging Ecosystems Applications Engineer is a high-impact, customer-facing technical role driving the adoption of Arm technologies across universities, training partners, and emerging developer communities globally.

Sitting at the intersection of Field Applications Engineering, Developer Relations, and Strategic Partnerships, you will serve as the technical authority promoting Arm’s technology roadmaps and priority use cases (including Cloud, Edge, and Physical AI) to the global academic and developer communities we serve.

Working closely with the Regional Senior Managers within the team, Arm Business Units, and Developer Enablement functions, you will turn these roadmaps into high-impact workshops, repeatable curricula, and scalable enablement programmes that drive measurable technology adoption.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Enablement & Ecosystem Adoption

  • Drive Adoption: Guide universities, developers, and training partners worldwide to adopt priority Arm technologies, tools, and software frameworks.
  • Hands-on Support: Deliver technical workshops, hands-on labs, platform demonstrations, and troubleshooting for Arm developer tools and reference architectures.
  • Focus on Key Workloads: Enable developers on strategic technology areas, specifically Edge AI, Cloud AI, and Physical AI.

Strategic Partnerships & Program Scaling

  • Academic & Community Engagement: Partner with regional managers and BU leads to build technical relationships with universities and emerging developer communities to embed Arm tech into degree curricula, design challenges, and global developer initiatives.
  • Scalable Frameworks: Help design and commission repeatable learning pathways, train-the-trainer models, and co-certification programmes that scale globally across multiple institutions and territories.
  • Pilot-to-Deployment Ownership: Provide technical guidance to senior regional managers to guide strategic partner initiatives from initial validation through pilot phases to full-scale deployment.

Field Intelligence & Strategic Alignment

  • Feedback Loop: Act as the technical voice of the global developer ecosystem, gathering insights on developer pain points, competitive trends, and adoption barriers to inform Arm’s product and enablement roadmaps.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align global academic and developer activities with Arm Business Units and regional Go-To-Market priorities to support broader commercial outcomes.
  • Representation: Represent Arm at key international academic conferences, developer summits, hackathons, and technical panels.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Technical Domain Depth: Solid foundation in computer architecture concepts, embedded systems, or software development (e.g., C/C++, Python, Linux, or RTOS environments).
  • Field Experience: Experience in Field Applications Engineering (FAE), Solutions Architecture, Developer Relations (DevRel), or Technical Enablement.
  • Technical Instruction: Demonstrated experience creating or delivering technical training, workshops, developer labs, or live demonstrations to engineering audiences.
  • Partner Leadership: Proven ability to navigate complex technical conversations with external partners (universities, or enterprise developers) and internal matrixed teams.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to articulate complex architectural concepts to both students and senior staff.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel globally as required.

Desirable / "Nice to Have" Experience

  • Direct experience engaging with international university networks, or global tech grant initiatives.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Arm architectures and Arm developer tools.
  • Practical exposure to AI/ML frameworks deployed at the edge or cloud (e.g., ExecuTorch, Kleidi, Ethos-U, PyTorch, TensorFlow Lite).
  • Experience designing structured learning curricula, lab exercises, or international developer hackathons.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) & Success Metrics

  • Technology Penetration: Quantitative growth in Arm technology and tool adoption across target global universities and developer communities.
  • Programme Scale: Successful launch and global scaling of repeatable learning pathways and train-the-trainer initiatives.
  • Partner Activation: Progression rate of academic and developer partnerships from initial outreach to active deployment/curriculum integration.
  • Strategic Product Impact: Actionable field feedback captured and integrated into Business Uni engineering and enablement roadmaps.
