Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Job ID 2025-14387 Date posted Sep. 30, 2025 Location Austin, Texas Category Hardware Engineering Apply

Arm technology is becoming the platform of choice for compute and AI. The Arm System Engineering team’s mission is to architect, design, and develop server and rack-level infrastructure for at-scale datacenter deployments. The team capabilities span across system hardware, software, system interconnect, system management storage, data center infrastructure and performance engineering. The team responsibilities include customer engagements, technology selection, system design, network architecture, performance, and datacenter deployment & operations. The Arm System Engineering team is developing industry-leading technology to deliver innovative and high-performing solutions to power the data centers of the future!

Job Overview:

We’re looking for a hands-on, systems-savvy Site Reliability Engineer to join our team in supporting and scaling the critical infrastructure that underpins our large-scale computing systems. In this role, you’ll be the operational backbone of the group — working directly with hardware, building automation, and ensuring systems stay online, resilient, and efficient. Additional responsibilities include everything from provisioning new servers to implementing observability tools, all while keeping a laser focus on uptime and system performance. You speak Linux fluently, carry a deep understanding of networking and storage, and bring a toolbox full of automation tricks to fix things fast and permanently. While you may write code when it makes sense, your true strength lies in your ability to dive into the messy, sophisticated realities of production environments — and bring order to them.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of large-scale, critically important systems through proactive monitoring, automation, and hands-on intervention.
  • Lead and maintain physical infrastructure — including server bring-up, BIOS/firmware updates, and hardware diagnostics.
  • Design and implement tools, scripts, and automation to streamline infrastructure operations, incident response, and recovery.
  • Develop and maintain observability systems (monitoring, alerting, logging) to detect and respond to issues before they impact users.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, hardware teams, and other SREs to ensure system robustness and scalability.
  • Respond to and solve production incidents with vitality, discipline, and a bias toward long-term fixes.
  • Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and operational standards to improve team efficiency.
  • Be a generalist and problem-solver: step into whatever operational work the team needs — from network wiring to automating bare-metal provisioning.

Required Skills and Experience :

  • Deep expertise in Linux systems administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting — you think in strace, tcpdump, and systemd.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using tools like Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience leading physical infrastructure, including servers, networking gear, power, and environmental systems.
  • In-depth understanding of core infrastructure components:
  • Networking (e.g., VLANs, routing, firewalls, DNS, DHCP)
  • Storage (e.g., NFS, TCP/NVMe, RAID, ZFS, Ceph)
  • Consistent record to design, implement, and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Fluentd, etc.).
  • Experience deploying and running Linux-based systems at scale, including provisioning, configuration management, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Familiarity with modern infrastructure tooling (e.g., Terraform, Kubernetes, container runtimes).
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and practical problem-solving in operational environments.
  • Comfort working in highly available, critically important environments where uptime and reliability are paramount.
  • Bachelor’s degree experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent hands-on experience.

“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience :

  • Experience leading infrastructure or operations projects from planning through execution and follow-up.
  • Familiarity with hardware diagnostics, failure analysis, and root cause resolution at scale.
  • Deep knowledge of bare-metal provisioning workflows (e.g., PXE booting, Kickstart, cloud-init, MAAS, Foreman).
  • Mastery of infrastructure-as-code and config management tooling (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet).
  • Strong familiarity with containerized environments and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, CRI-O).
  • Comfortable with GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines for operational infrastructure.
  • Fluency with security practices related to system hardening, patch management, secrets management, and auditing.
  • Contributions to open-source infrastructure tooling or operational standards.
  • Prior experience supporting production environments in industries with extreme uptime or compliance requirements (e.g., finance, defense, aerospace).
  • Willingness to wear many hats and go deep — from swapping a bad NIC to writing an automation framework or running a production fire drill.

In Return:

  • Be part of a groundbreaking team influencing the next generation of data center systems!
  • Collaborate with world-class engineers and vendors to develop industry-leading AI hardware.
  • Drive innovation in mechanical design at scale with global impact.
  • Access professional growth through sophisticated project involvement and multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Join a company committed to diversity and inclusion, where your work matters and drives global progress!
