We are seeking a Senior QA Firmware Engineer to lead the design, development, and execution of test strategies for BMC firmware validation across server and rack-scale platforms. This role is critical to ensuring the quality and reliability of firmware used in hyperscale data center environments! You will take full ownership of building QA environments, automating test infrastructure, and collaborating closely with firmware developers, system engineers, and ODM partners throughout the product lifecycle. Come join our team!
Responsibilities:
- Architect and implement scalable, automated QA test environments for firmware validation across physical and emulated platforms.
- Lead development of test plans, test cases, and automation scripts covering key firmware features (e.g., power/thermal management, sensor telemetry, remote management protocols such as IPMI, Redfish, PMCI), robustness/stress testing and error injection scenarios.
- Build and maintain automated testing pipelines within a CI/CD environment to enable continuous validation and regression coverage.
- Define QA strategy and quality gates for firmware releases in partnership with development and program teams.
- Lead bug triage, root cause analysis, and quality assessments across multiple teams and ODM partners.
- Track test metrics and coverage, identify gaps, and continuously improve validation processes to meet evolving hyperscale requirements.
- Mentor junior QA engineers and contribute to an environment of quality, reliability, and engineering perfection.
- Participate in multi-functional reviews and provide guidance to firmware design from a validation and testability perspective.
Required Skills and Experience :
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5+ years in firmware QA, validation, or embedded systems testing, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- Proven expertise in creating and maintaining QA environments including hardware lab setups, simulators, and test infrastructure.
- Strong experience validating OpenBMC-based or similar BMC/server firmware platforms.
- Solid scripting/programming skills (Python, Bash, Shell) for test automation.
- Deep knowledge of platform management protocols (IPMI, DCMI, DMTF standards such as Redfish and PMCI, SSH, VNC, SNMP).
- Hands-on experience integrating and operating within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
- Familiarity with BMC architecture and hardware interfaces: OCP DC-SCM and HPM, NC-SI, MCTP, PLDM, PCIe, I3C/I2C, SPI, USB, SGPIO, UART.
- Experience collaborating with ODM/JDM partners on validation, issue triage, and quality assurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience testing firmware in hyperscale environments or large-scale server deployments.
- Contributions to open-source QA tools or firmware validation frameworks (e.g., OpenBMC CI tools)
- Experience with total server lifecycle from hardware bring up to sustaining.
- Familiarity with IT infrastructure monitoring tools such as Prometheus/Grafana, and Nagios along with code static analysis tools and vulnerability scanners.
- Knowledge of firmware security techniques (e.g., secure boot, TPM, firmware signing, recovery flows).
- Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing frameworks and BMC automation platforms.
- Experience with test case management tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr, qTest).
