We are looking for an experienced Virtualization Engineer to join the team that powers Arm’s engineering compute platform. In this role, you will play a key part in redesigning our on-premises Virtualization stack and crafting our hybrid-cloud infrastructure strategy. Your work will directly impact the productivity of engineering teams by delivering scalable, automated, and resilient infrastructure services. You will work closely with other teams to design, build, and support next-generation compute environments that meet the demands of high-performance engineering workloads.
Job Overview:
The Staff Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining private cloud environments using data center virtualisation (VMware, Harvester, OpenShift, etc.) technologies. This role requires a deep understanding of virtualisation, cloud infrastructure, and automation to support the organization's hybrid-cloud strategy to enable and empower engineering teams using technology platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy private cloud environments using Virtualization and software-defined data center (SDDC) technologies. Develop automation tools and modules to Optimize infrastructure operations, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
- Monitor the health and performance of hybrid-cloud infrastructure. Debug and resolve issues related to Virtualization and system reliability. Provide technical support and mentorship to engineering teams and internal users.
- Partner with multi-functional teams to understand infrastructure needs and deliver effective solutions. Communicate project updates and issue resolutions clearly. Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, configurations, and standards.
- Stay ahead of with evolving private cloud and automation technologies. Continuously identify and implement improvements in infrastructure, automation, security, and monitoring. Promote standard processes for infrastructure reliability and maintainability.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bring deep expertise in building and maintaining enterprise-grade private cloud environments, using Virtualization and SDDC technologies such as VMware, KVM, OpenShift, and OpenStack. You’ll be shaping the foundation of our internal cloud platforms.
- Drive the design and implementation of scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure patterns tailored for high-availability, production-critical environments.
- Demonstrate a solid grasp of software-defined compute, storage, and networking, and design hybrid cloud solutions that seamlessly integrate on-prem and public cloud environments.
- Architect and implement automated workflows for both virtual and bare-metal infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Foreman, and BMaaS platforms—enabling repeatable, reliable infrastructure delivery.
- Define and implement standards for IaC and configuration practices, helping engineering teams adopt and scale automation across the organization.
- Integrate infrastructure automation into CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous delivery of platform changes. Experience with API-driven infrastructure and alignment with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles is highly valued.
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
- Certification in OpenStack, Virtualization, SDDC, or related fields.
- Knowledge of containers such as in Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience working in or with DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering teams
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools for hybrid-cloud environments.
