Arm is a sophisticated and dynamic semiconductor technology business with a portfolio of over 9,000 active patents and applications covering a broad range of semiconductor, CPU, GPU and software technologies. This is an exciting time to join and help craft how innovation is protected within our business.
Job Overview:
Our in-house IP team builds and curates Arm’s patent and trademark portfolio and supports the creation of innovation throughout the business.
Your role as a patent portfolio manager will involve leading all aspects of portfolio development in one or more technology areas from invention disclosure, guiding prosecution through to patent expiration.
Responsibilities:
Working with our inventor community to educate, advise and support protecting innovation across the business. Building an understanding of the technology, you will then apply this insight to guide patent counsel on the course of prosecution activity.
You will have opportunities to support our commercial legal team on patent matters in commercial agreements, as well as support a variety of other activities that intertwine with the management of an IP portfolio. These may include exploring patent strategy, competitive intelligence, standards and open source software, developing our reporting capabilities and IP management systems.
We offer a challenging but highly collaborative environment within an international IP team split between the UK and USA, with a creative but pragmatic approach to building and curating a valuable patent portfolio for our business.
There is some flexibility in the role and whilst prosecution skills and technical knowledge are important, we are able to tailor some aspects of the role dependent on whether you are part-qualified, recently qualified or have a few years post qualification experience.
If you have the below experience we would love to hear from you!
Required Skills and Experience:
- CPA or EPA qualified patent attorney, or making good progress through the examinations. We are also open to applications from candidates with qualifications from other jurisdictions who have knowledge of UK/US patent law.
- A background in electronics, physics or computer science or proven experience working or prosecuting patent portfolios in such an area.
- A university degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Physics or a related subject is preferred, although other qualifications will be considered if suitable technical knowledge can be shown.
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
You will be capable of working autonomously to handle your own portfolio of cases and associated prosecution, whilst also working collaboratively with colleagues across our wider Legal group.
Creativity and innovation will allow you to tackle challenges presented to the team and to help develop new ways of working efficiently. We actively encourage change and encourage the whole team to improve the way we work, engage with our community and external patent counsel.
In Return:
This is a great opportunity for somebody looking to broaden their knowledge of IP and it's application in a commercial environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a number of stakeholders and learn about groundbreaking technology!
As a business, we support hybrid working and our existing prosecution team are based at our headquarters in Cambridge, UK.
